What Hides Beneath
While scouting the Skitter command tower in downtown Boston, Tom, Hal and Weaver spy a tall, humanoid alien species directing Skitters. They appear to be the "officers" or master-race commanding or controlling the Skitters. Tom theorizes that the reason they haven't seen them before is because in a normal military occupation, high ranking officers don't expose themselves in open territory until they feel confident that they've secured a region.

Weaver, who used to run a construction business, observes the alien tower and notes that both the aliens construction techniques and building materials are fairly imitative of those found on Earth. They seem to be using fairly basic construction techniques, and while they do have access to some exotic materials in their ships and Mechs, their large-scale structures seem to be made out of basic construction materials found on Earth like concrete and steel rebar. Hal points out that this explains what they were doing with all of the scrap metal they were making the harnessed children collect (as seen in episode 1x03, "Prisoner of War").

Back in the high school base camp, Pope has been assisting Uncle Scott in examining the wreckage of some of the Mechs they have managed to destroy, and Matt pokes around as he works. Pope explains that from what they can discern from the wreckage, even the Mechs are imitative of Earth technology, or as he puts it, "they're really big into recycling". Mech bodies are made using an exotic alien alloy - which they dub simply "Mech-metal" - which is tough enough to stop small arms fire while remaining compact and lightweight. However, their built-in autocannons literally use standard munitions. The Mechs are not simply using cartridges of similar size to Earth rounds; instead when Pope opened up the magazine in a Mech gun, he found Earth-built cartridges with human manufacturer markings on them. Pope's theory is that after the opening wave of the invasion, the initial EMP detonation and mass air strikes, the aliens began raiding every major armory and ammunition depot they could gain access to, then took the cartridges to use in their Mechs. The only difference is that they changed the tips on each of the cartridges so they fire bullets made out of exotic Mech-metal, making each shot armor-piercing (which Pope compares to using depleted uranium tipped rounds, but much more powerful). The human resistance does not know why the aliens are using Earth building materials and ammunition, only vaguely speculating that the aliens planned for the invasion to rely on local resources to support itself. Matt remarks that its not fair that the Mech-metal used in the Skitters' robots gives them such an edge in combat that the humans don't have, which inspires Pope to start experimenting around with the recovered Mech-metal they have.

Meanwhile, Dr. Anne Glass decides to perform an autopsy on the corpse of the Skitter she killed (in episode 1x05 "Silent Kill"), which she hasn't had a chance to perform yet because of the temporary evacuation instigated by the incident with the 7th Mass ("Sanctuary"). All previous attempts to perform autopsies on dead Skitters have been unsuccessful, because their innards rapidly decompose into unrecognizable mush very soon after they die. In the first months of the invasion the humans were just running for their lives and couldn't carry Skitter corpses back from the front lines, and even when they could bring one back later on, they had already decomposed internally. Because the captured Skitter died right inside of their base, its their first real opportunity to successfully autopsy one. Lourdes assists Anne with the procedure, because as a first year medical student she's the closest thing to a nurse she has. They discover that while the Skitters have tough leathery skin and carapace armor, their internal structure isn't that much different from terrestrial vertebrates, including an endoskeleton, cardio-vascular system, and nervous system. Anne then confirms her fears when she saws through the armored carapace of the Skitter's back, and finds that it has a harness attached to its spine, identical in structure to the ones attached to the human children. The implications to Anne are clear: the Skitters were themselves harnessed, and might not always have been Skitters. Particularly because the harness was found within their outer carapace, it seems that they used to be some other kind of lifeform, captured by the tall humanoid aliens who used the harnesses to mutate them into shock-troops. Anne realizes this means that the harnessed children are being slowly mutated, either into Skitters or something like them.

While returning to base, the scouting team meets a strange woman that invites them into her home. Tom and Hal take up her offer while Weaver guards their motorbikes. While inside, Weaver takes off, having removed the spark plugs on Tom and Hal's bikes. They eventually track him down to his old house where Tom finds him drinking whiskey in the backyard. Weaver explains that he had separated from his wife before the invasion and couldn't find her when the attack began. He found his younger daughter who had been harnessed and inadvertently killed her in removing it. They are interrupted when a Mech shows up, forcing Hal to hide and Tom and Weaver to work together to destroy it. Realizing that the only person who knew their location was the strange woman they met earlier, they return to her apartment and discover she is an agent of the Skitters who use her to capture people. While questioning her, a young woman turns up at the door inquiring whether any more people have been there. She turns out to be Karen, Hal's girlfriend, who has now been captured and harnessed. Before Hal can do anything, Tom looks through the peep hole and comes face to face with one of the new tall aliens. Hal is desperate to save Karen but Tom has to hold him back, because there's no way they can capture her without alerting the aliens to their presence. Deciding that the woman - who seems mentally disturbed after losing her family in the invasion - cannot be trusted, Tom lies to her about the direction they are actually heading as they leave.

They return to the school with this news and find Pope demonstrating that a bullet made out of Mech armor can penetrate the Mech itself, to the applause of onlookers. Weaver orders teams to start melting down as much Mech-metal as they have into bullets, which will even the odds the next time the aliens face them and each soldier is firing armor-piercing rounds. Rick, who observed this, takes off, followed by Ben.

Falling Skies: Sanctuary - Part 2 (Season 1 - Episode 7)

The chaotic aftermath of an alien attack has left most of the world completely incapacitated. In the six months since the initial invasion, the few survivors have banded together outside major cities to begin the difficult task of fighting back. Each day is a test of survival as citizen soldiers work to protect the people in their care while also engaging in an insurgency campaign against the occupying alien force.

Sanctuary - Part 2
The children of the 2nd Mass, now at Clayton's "Sanctuary" play a game of soccer. During an interval, Tessa, a member of the Sanctuary, is called by her father telling her to remember why the others are here. Later, Terry and Tessa's father go out to a hidden barn, where their prisoner, John Pope, is being held. Pope was forced to give up important information about the 2nd Mass, which allowed the resistance fighters to offer their trust to an immoral source, like Terry. Clayton leaves and Pope, who has already used a piece of broken glass to cut the ropes that were binding him, knocks out the Tessa's father, but decides not to kill him. As he escapes, he notices two dead bodies lined behind the barn.

Tom becomes frustrated as the 2nd Mass have received no word from Clayton in 48 hours, seen no sign of the 3rd Mass nor the escorts. Weaver isn't happy that Tom is leaving to look for the kids, but he orders him and Dai to return to base camp that night. Back at the Sanctuary, Lourdes spots a backpack belonging to Eli Russell, a child from the 2nd Mass whom Terry lured into the forest in the previous episode. She secretly meets with Hal and Mike about the backpack she found. Mike states that he trusts Clayton, however he later searches the locked barn and finds a pile of Eli's clothes. Clayton finds him and pulls a gun on him. He tells Mike how horrible it was to witness the 7th Mass be taken down. Clayton says that one of the kids, a girl named Megan, fell behind and was taken by Skitters. After that, the aliens left his team alone for a week. Terry describes the behavior as though the Skitters were thanking them for Megan, for handing over one of their own. Terry explains to Rick that like soldiers in a human army, each detachment of Skitters has its own assigned regions and sectors, and each has its own quotas to fill; in their case, the number of human children they are expected to capture and harness. The force of Skitters that nearly wiped out the 7th Mass decided that if their quota was being met or even surpassed, it didn't really matter to them that the remaining handful of the 7th Mass and their families were still free. So the Skitters offered Terry an arrangement in which he'd collaborate with them, let the remnant of the 7th mass serve as a trap to quietly collect refugee human children, and in return the Skitters would leave his men and their families alone.

Mike decides that it's time for the 2nd Mass to leave the Sanctuary. Hal realizes that Tessa knew about the plan the entire time, and she alerts her father and the rest of the men that the sacrificial kids are escaping. They run into the night with only an armed Mike and Hal to defend the group, while Hal takes Rick and leads the rest of the kids to safety. Before they leave, Mike tells Rick how much he loves him. Clayton comes behind Mike with a gun. In the forest, Hal hears a gunshot, implying that Clayton killed Mike.

The next day, the 2nd Mass children wander in an unfamiliar area. They break in an abandoned house. Ben believes he should move on ahead of the group, since he's not tired and can move faster. Hal agrees with his younger brother and tells him to follow the highway, back to the school base camp. Tom and Dai spot Ben on the road, and Ben tells his father about what's going on.

The men from the Sanctuary have found Hal and children, and demand they give themselves up. Hal opens fire on the soldiers, while Lourdes leads the kids out the back. Pope defends Hal by shooting one of Clayton's men. He gets shot right before he notices Tom hiding among the trees. Tom walks up to the men and tells them that Porter is on the way. He offers himself as a hostage to spare the lives of the kids. He tells Hal to come out of the house, and they all become prisoners of Clayton's. They are escorted back to the Sanctuary but Weaver and other 2nd Mass soldiers have arrived. Clayton's and his men give up, but Clayton, in an attempt to kill Hal, is shot by Tom.

In the final scene, the 2nd Mass offer a military funeral for Mike, who sacrificed his own life to keep his son and the other children alive. Tom says a few words in honor of his slain friend, and Rick receives the folded American flag at the funeral. He tells Ben that its in mankind's nature to kill and that "we" would never do that. Rick now identifies himself as part of the skitter race, instead of the human race. And with one chilling look, he tells Ben that he should feel the same way.

Falling Skies: Sanctuary - Part 1 (Season 1 - Episode 6)

The chaotic aftermath of an alien attack has left most of the world completely incapacitated. In the six months since the initial invasion, the few survivors have banded together outside major cities to begin the difficult task of fighting back. Each day is a test of survival as citizen soldiers work to protect the people in their care while also engaging in an insurgency campaign against the occupying alien force.

Sanctuary - Part 1
Anne, while examining a young boy, is held at gunpoint by the boy's father who asks for medicine. Anne fills up a bag with drugs but fights back. The man hits her and takes the bag. Tom, Weaver and Mike go after the family to convince them to stay. They fire back but are stopped by Terry Clayton, a member of the 7th Mass. The family runs away and gives back the medicine.Terry meets with Tom, Weaver and Mike, all of whom seem to know him. Clayton tells them that the 7th Mass is no more as they were attacked by Skitters. Clayton tells them that he must take the kids of the 2nd Mass because Skitters are on their way and a move from the school is necessary. Tom is very reluctant against this move.

Margaret, while getting medication from Anne for her friend, Sarah, gives Anne a gun for future protection and offers a shooting lesson. Ben seems to be recovering well as he performs 102 push-ups without breaking a sweat. He tells Matt that the Skitters cared for the kids and weren’t monsters, but a family. Hal overhears this conversation, seeming concerned.

Hal addresses his concerns about Ben to Anne, telling her that Ben is like a different kid. Anne talks to Tom about Ben but Tom doesn’t see a problem with his son. Tom then tells her that he doesn’t want to take Clayton up on his offer. Jimmy asks Weaver if he can be put back in rotation. Weaver allows him to go on lookout with Parker. Anne takes Margaret up on her offer and goes shooting with her. Clayton talks to worried parents about his offer. He tells them that it is a “temporary measure”. Tom interjects, still seemingly against the idea.

Jimmy goes out on lookout with Parker, who sits alone in an abandoned school bus. A Mech quickly comes and kills Parker. The Mech’s fire alerts the soldiers. Jimmy is almost killed but manages to escape. Weaver, while looking for Jimmy, finds Parker’s body in the bus. Jimmy is attacked inside by a Skitter. Tom and Weaver hear him scream and they go to help. Before the Skitter can kill Jimmy, Weaver shoots it. Jimmy begins to cry and a reluctant Weaver comforts him.

Clayton talks to Weaver and Tom after the attack and tells them that the next attack could happen soon. Weaver tells Tom that Clayton’s offer has to be reconsidered. Tom agrees. Ben is verbally attacked by an angry citizen who calls him a “razor-back” and the Skitters are attacking because of kids like him. Hal defends his brother and threatens the man. Ben goes to see his father. Tom asks Ben if he is happy to be back and Ben tells him that he is. Ben tells his father that he wants to go with Clayton to ease his father’s burden. Tom then goes and speaks to parents of the 2nd Mass, telling them that he is allowing Ben and Matt to go with Clayton and urges everyone else to follow.

Ben looks at a picture of he and his family on holiday. He gives it to Hal and tells him that he can return it later. Later, Hal tells Tom that he wants to go with Clayton to look out for Ben and Matt. He tells Tom about a time when he fought with Ben and their mother urged them to look out for each other. Hal says that he owes his mother the courtesy of keeping his promise. Outside the school, children of the 2nd Mass prepare to leave with Clayton. They go out on foot to a Ranch. Later that night, Eli, the young boy whose father attacked Anne, tells Clayton that he wants to see his parents. Clayton takes Eli to the woods where he is met by a “harnessed” girl who tells him that she can take Eli to his family. Eli becomes frantic as he notices her “harness”. A Skitter and a Mech come and shoot Eli unconscious. They communicate with Clayton using the girl. Clayton goes back to the Ranch, revealing an imprisoned Pope: Clayton beat the information out of Pope on where to find the 2nd Mass and their kids.

Falling Skies: Silent Kill (Season 1 - Episode 5)

The chaotic aftermath of an alien attack has left most of the world completely incapacitated. In the six months since the initial invasion, the few survivors have banded together outside major cities to begin the difficult task of fighting back. Each day is a test of survival as citizen soldiers work to protect the people in their care while also engaging in an insurgency campaign against the occupying alien force.

Silent Kill
Hal and Margaret return to the High School after scouting the area near the hospital where the drugs they need are kept. They hand the drugs over to Anne for the operations. Anne speaks to Tom about the risks of the procedure, letting him know that there is a chance Ben could die. Tom and Hal go and see Weaver to give him a brief on the situation. Tom tells him that Ben's group is still at the hospital. Tom shows his plan to Weaver on a map.

Anne continues to give water to the Skitter. Dr. Harris doesn't agree that it deserves to be hydrated. While getting food, Margaret meets Sarah, a pregnant civilian. Later, Scott tells Tom that he can try and pick up a Skitter transmission on his radio as the Skitters communicate using radio waves, as an early warning system that Skitters are nearby. However, just one Skitter in the hospital will not be transmitting. Weaver hears a record that Scott is playing and it clearly brings up a distasteful memory. He finds it and removes it.

Tom and Hal practice shooting targets with crossbows as a crossbow can kill a Skitter silently. Margaret offers her assistance and helps Hal with his aim. She tells Tom that she knows the layout of the hospital where Ben is kept.

Dr. Harris prepares to inject the Skitter with a lethal serum. He fails to do so and the Skitter attacks him. Anne runs to help and gets the Skitter off him but Harris dies immediately. After this, Weaver tells his soldiers that the Skitter needs to die. Anne asks for more time to study it and Weaver gives her 24 hours. Hal speaks to Rick who sits quietly on a bench outside. Hal asks him about the "harness" and the Skitters. Rick tells Hal that if they go and find Ben, they will be killed. Hal then comes up with a new plan for rescuing Ben, wearing a "harness" himself in order to avoid detection. Tom protests against this idea, but Hal convinces him. The pair go to see Anne who tells them of the "pressure point" that Dr. Harris found earlier when Mike knocked the Skitter out: the Skitters have no bone separating the soft palate of their upper mouth from the brain, making it a weak spot. She tests theory by shoving her scalpel in its mouth, driving it hard enough that she penetrates the soft tissue into the brain and kills it. Tom speaks to Anne about what happened and she tells him it wasn't hard. She breaks down and tells Tom that she has no picture of her family.

Later that night, Tom, Hal, Dai, Anthony and Margaret arrive at the hospital. The group hide behind a car as Hal, "harnessed", enters the hospital. He finds a group of kids in a group following a Skitter and he joins them, blending in. The kids lay down on the floor to sleep. The Skitter perches itself over them, sheltering the children under its legs like a mother hen, while petting their hair almost as if they are pets. Tom and Margaret enter the hospital in order to save Hal who was now waiting for the right time to attack. He slowly removes the scalpel from his pocket and attacks but the Skitter fights back, as do the kids. Tom and Margaret find him but cannot shoot as they might miss and hit Hal or one of the kids. Margaret manages to shoot the Skitter with an arrow which distracts it, allowing Hal to successfully stab the Skitter in its mouth and kill it. The group then escapes, bringing the kids with them.

Anne begins to operate on the six kids. She removes most their "harnesses" successfully from five but one child dies. While waiting for news on Ben, Hal sits in the school hallway, when he is visited by Margaret. She tells him that she had cancer when she was younger. Tom later comes to see Hal, telling him how proud of him he is. Weaver plays the record he confiscated from Scott, crying slightly. Anne enters the operating room to find Tom and his sons. Tom thanks Anne for saving Ben’s life. Ben awakes later apparently recognizing his father.

Falling Skies: Grace (Season 1 - Episode 4)

The chaotic aftermath of an alien attack has left most of the world completely incapacitated. In the six months since the initial invasion, the few survivors have banded together outside major cities to begin the difficult task of fighting back. Each day is a test of survival as citizen soldiers work to protect the people in their care while also engaging in an insurgency campaign against the occupying alien force.

Grace
The Skitter that Tom captured is being held in a cage. Anne and Harris are given the task of studying it. The Skitter seemed to become angrier by the sight of Tom, who tells it that he remembers him. Weaver is informed by Pope that there is a motorcycle shop nearby. He tells Tom to take a team to get the bikes. Tom reluctantly agrees that Pope accompany them.

Tom, Hal, Dai, Anthony and Pope set out on a country road. Tom speaks to Dai about how he worries for his sons. Tom mentions that his wife could have handled the situation with Hal better than he.

Anne, in the hope of learning more about the Skitter, shows him pictures, of which Harris argues is a waste of time. Scott shows Weaver a radio he made and that Matt is helping him with the radio. On their hunt for bikes, the group see a group of Skitters sleeping upside down like bats. Pope requests they shoot them down but Tom disagrees.

Anne starts to give the Skitter water to drink as Harris walks in with the Skitter Pope and his gang murdered. This aggravates the alive Skitter. Before eating, Lourdes says a prayer. Weaver notices her and tells her she is lucky to still "believe in something".

At the motorcycle shop, the gang prepare to get the bikes. Hal notices a locket that Karen would have liked. Tom tells him that Hal's mother could have handled this situation better, Hal agrees. Back at the High School, Harris plans to cut into the Skitter. Anne protests and tells him that it is a living creature. Later, Mike's son Rick wakes up, not recognizing his father. Mike confronts the Skitter about this, hoping it can understand him. Failing that, Mike puts his gun in the Skitters mouth, knocking it unconscious. At the same time this is happening, Anne, Matt and Scott hear interference on the radio Scott built. Dr. Harris tells Anne and Mike that he found a "pressure point" near the Skitter's soft palate. Anne believes the Skitter's have "radio's in their heads" as the interference came on Scott's radio at the same time Mike threatened the Skitter. However, while the Skitters communicate at radio-frequencies this only has roughly the same range as a human voice does, so the captured Skitter cannot alert the other aliens. Anne attempts to perform an autopsy on the old Skitter corpse from Pope's hideout, but it has been dead for too long and the insides have already rotted into unrecognizable goo.

As the gang prepare to leave the motorbike store, Pope knocks Dai out and takes a bike, escaping. He goes back to the sleeping Skitter's and blows them up. Waking up, Rick attaches the "harness" to his back. Scott's radio experiences interference waves at this time and Mike runs in to find his son. Rick is helping the Skitter escape. Dr. Harris communicates with the Skitter by talking to Rick. Mike runs over and pulls the "harness" off his son, causing him to be knocked out.

A group of armed "harnessed kids" find Tom and the others. The kids fire, shooting Dai in the leg. Anthony suggests that they fight back but Tom says no. Tom believes that a Skitter is nearby, controlling them. The kids move together, only shooting when there is a target. Tom makes Molotov bomb using gasoline, cloth and a bottle. He ignites the cloth, then fires at a car. The car blows and the kids open fire on the car. Hal and Anthony get away but Tom and Dai are ambushed by a Skitter. Dai kills it and they drive away.

Tom talks to Weaver and tells him that he will look for the drugs needed for the operations and then go look for Ben. Tom speaks to Hal who worries that Ben will be a different person. Tom tells Hal that Ben is strong. Later, Tom goes to eat and is surprised to see fresh bread. Margaret tells him that it's a parting gift from Pope. Around the table, Tom, Hal, Dai, Matt, Anne and Lourdes hold hands and pray. Weaver, sitting at the next table, quietly whispers along with them, indicating that he hasn't lost all faith.

Falling Skies: Prisoner Of War (Season 1 - Episode 3)

The chaotic aftermath of an alien attack has left most of the world completely incapacitated. In the six months since the initial invasion, the few survivors have banded together outside major cities to begin the difficult task of fighting back. Each day is a test of survival as citizen soldiers work to protect the people in their care while also engaging in an insurgency campaign against the occupying alien force.

Prisoner Of War
Tom, Hal, Karen, Anthony, Dai and Margaret watch as kids with harnesses collect scrap metal for the aliens. Tom sees his son, Ben and the group prepare to grab him. Karen accidentally knocks a loose piece of rock from the building, alerting the aliens and the group runs away.

Back at the school, parents of harnessed kids come over and ask Tom if he saw anything. Mike tells them to back off as more and more badger Tom for the information. Col. Porter tells Tom that a doctor has a theory on how to remove the harnesses and that he wants to test it on Ben. Porter then tells him to bring Ben back safely. Tom meets up with Matt who heard that when a harness is removed, the kids die. Tom reassures his son that Ben will be fine.

Col. Porter calls a briefing for the fighters in a classroom. Long-distance communication collapsed when the Skitters detonated their EMP attack at the start of the invasion six months ago, leaving the resistance to have to rely on sending scouts to physically run west to try to find out more information, and the runners have finally returned. Porter reports that they contacted another human resistance militia in the outskirts of Chicago, who in turn told them that they had contacted other resistance cells in Oklahoma and Texas, with fuzzy reports of surviving human resistance cells as far away as California. The Massachusetts resistance cell is no longer alone, and they are going to begin coordinating a nation-wide guerrilla war against the aliens. Col. Porter says this means they have to start thinking tactically, gathering reconnaissance on Skitter tactics, technology, and troop deployments.

In his cell, Pope is given food but finds it disgusting. Here he tells Uncle Scott that he was a chef before the invasion. At first Scott is incredulous at this, but Pope explains that when he was in prison he worked the kitchen detail, and took cooking correspondence classes on the side to get certified (as if the other prisoners thought the food was bad, they would have knifed him). Uncle Scott tells Weaver about this and he interviews Pope about the possibility of letting him cook for everyone. Tom finds Anne and Lourdes, and Anne tells Tom about Dr. Harris. Tom knows Harris and the two of them discuss Ben and Tom's late wife, Rebecca.

Tom, Hal, Karen, Dai and Mike go to find Ben. Tom and Mike hide behind rubble. Mike sees his son and runs toward him, despite the danger of the Mechs and Skitters. Mike grabs his son and Tom destroys a Mech. Another Mech, however, blows up a car, which knocks Tom out. Dai grabs him and takes him in their vehicle, leaving Hal and Karen behind. Later, in a dark alley, Tom wakes up with Dai, Mike and his son. Dai tells Tom that Hal and Karen were left behind. Tom goes to find them and is attacked by a Skitter, but Tom shoots two of its legs off with a shotgun and beats it half-to-death. Tom returns to the school with the Skitter and deems it a "Prisoner of War".

Later that night, an injured Hal wakes up from on the ground where the Mech attacked. Harnessed kids (including Ben) come and drag an unconscious Karen away with them. Hal is delusional and weak and fails to stop them. A Mech and Skitter gather a group of kids and the Mech executes them right in front of Hal.

Back at the school, Dr. Harris successfully removes the harness from Mike's son, with the help of Anne, Dai and Lourdes. Harris explains that he figured out why children always died in previous attempts to remove the harnesses: they synthesize some sort of drug into the body, stimulating the brain's nerve receptors in some way that facilitates mind-control. Whatever this drug is, suddenly being separated from it made children die of shock. Harris theorized that while they didn't know exactly what the drug was, it must have vaguely similar affects as other drugs that stimulate the cognitive centers of the brain, such as morphine. Injecting a child with a large dose of morphine before removing the harness would serve as a "bridge" to safely transition off of the alien drug without fatally shocking the brain, after which the child could be incrementally weaned off the morphine. Using this procedure, Harris and Anne are able to successfully cut the harness off Mike's son without killing him. However, Harris says that it is impossible to remove the tips of the needles that have fused into the child's spine: the points of the needles seem to be some sort of nanotechnology that grows into the spine the longer it is present.

Tom finds Hal alive and Hal tells his father of what he witnessed. Tom explains that the Nazis used similar tactics against Allied POW's in World War II: if one prisoner managed to escape, they would execute entire groups but leave one witness behind, to let the Allies know the harsh reprisal they would exact. The Skitters let Hal escape because they want to discourage the human resistance from attempting to free more harnessed children.

Tom returns to the school and finds Anne. He reveals that Hal blames himself for Karen's abduction and is not taking it well. Tom asks Anne where he can find Dr. Harris. Harris drinks, watching the captured Skitter. Tom confronts him about his deceased wife. It is revealed that Harris abandoned Tom's wife and left her to die when the attacks began. Tom punches Harris in the face in anger.

In the closing scene, Mike's son lays down on a stretcher and the scene cuts to the captured Skitter, which opens its eyes, it cuts back to Mike's son, who opens his eyes too.

Falling Skies: Live And Learn/The Armory (Season 1 - Episodes 1 And 2)

The chaotic aftermath of an alien attack has left most of the world completely incapacitated. In the six months since the initial invasion, the few survivors have banded together outside major cities to begin the difficult task of fighting back. Each day is a test of survival as citizen soldiers work to protect the people in their care while also engaging in an insurgency campaign against the occupying alien force.

Live And Learn
In the opening scene, young children tell their versions of the invasion. They draw pictures of their families, kids with harnesses and the alien airships. Tom Mason's son, Matt, tells Anne Glass that his mother died during the attacks and his older brother, Ben was kidnapped. He then shows her a picture of his father and older brother, Hal. Matt informs Anne that they are fighting. In a dark street, Tom and Hal look for food. They grab a food kart, but are ambushed by robotic aliens, known as "Mechs", which destroy the food. As Tom and Hal run away, soldiers fire guns at the aliens behind barricades. The aliens destroy the barricade and kill the soldiers. Tom and Hal hide in an empty store. They exit, finding Weaver and other soldiers armed with guns. An airship flies overhead and fires, causing a bright light to consume the atmosphere around them. The group runs away back to their base.

Upon arrival, Tom sees his son Matt asleep and picks him up. He talks to his friend, Anne who tells him about his son's drawings. Tom is then called by Col. Porter for a meeting. There, Porter discusses his plan to leave the city and break off into groups. The alien air ships can detect groups of humans over 600 persons so he splits his brigade into smaller groups consisting of 100 fighters and 200 civilians. He puts Weaver in charge of the 2nd Mass and Tom as his second-in-command.

The following day, the fighters and civilians begin to move. They search for food in stores but find none. Weaver tells Tom that they can't go back looking for more food as the numbers are too large. Tom volunteers to go back. Weaver gives him six fighters and a pickup truck. Hal, Karen, Dai, Anthony, Click and Jimmy join Tom in the hunt for food. Hal and Karen leave the group to search for aliens. Hal sees Mechs and harnessed kids with them. It is there that he sees his brother, Ben. He immediately returns to tell his father. They are both overjoyed, yet Tom insits that they stick with the mission at hand. Hal disagrees and tries to go and find his brother. Tom wrestles him to the ground and convinces him to do the job the "right way".

The group finds a supply store with food and scout the area for aliens. Finding none, they load the food into the truck. Hal is attacked by a Skitter. Tom fires at it and his son runs away. A Mech is alerted and comes after Tom. Hal stops the it by firing at it. It then runs after Hal. Tom puts C-4 in a shopping cart and wheels it next to the Mech, killing it. The Skitter comes after Tom, but Dai shoots it. The alien dies slowly after its gun wound and the group observes it before it dies.

The six fighters return and Tom informs Weaver of their success. He then tells Weaver that he and Hal must go looking for Ben. Weaver declines and says they must raid the armory for weapons. Tom tells him after that, they will go and find him. Before the 2nd Mass leave the city, Hal gives his brother his birthday gift. The children of the 2nd Mass play with it as the adults watch. Weaver tells Tom it is time to leave and they all mount out on foot.

The Armory
At the Armory, Tom and the other members gather to see if aliens are present. Hal throws a tennis ball to the entrance, hoping that the dog will go for the ball. The dog moves forward, barking and a "mech" appears. Before it can kill the dog, Jimmy stops it, compromising their position. They all move before the Mech attacks.

The next morning, Tom informs Weaver about the previous night's events. He tells Tom to return again tonight. Anne then confronts Weaver about the current sleeping situation, where civilians are living in tents and the fighters in houses. Anne deems it unfair, yet Weaver believes the soldiers need proper rest. Anne and Tom then discuss "civilians vs the military". The pair then watch Uncle Scott teach the young kids about biology. Later, Uncle Scott talks to Tom about the aliens. He points out that robots humans created were made to look human, with two legs, yet the Skitters' mechs also have two legs, despite a Skitter having six. Tom theorizes the Skitters may have studied Earth before the invasion, and deployed bipedal machines as a form of psychological intimidation. After running in to Lourdes, Karen talks to Hal about her intention. Hal doesn't seem to care about Lourdes and kisses Karen. Tom interrupts, telling Hal they are due to return to the Armory later.

Later that night, the group get ready. Jimmy is told that Click will be going in his place which disappoints him. At the Armory, Click is shot and killed by two arrows and as he goes down, he shoots someone in the leg. It is revealed to be not aliens, but a group of outlaws who capture the group. The outlaws, led by a man named John Pope, take the group to an auditorium, tying them up. Pope interrogates them and Tom responds to all his answers. Pope pulls a gun on Tom, but Hal tells him that they can help him get weapons. Hal is led out of the auditorium by Margaret, a woman in Pope's gang, who gives him one hour to go back and get guns from the 2nd Mass. Tom and Pope discuss the aliens and Tom discovers that Pope is a gifted fighter. Tom asks for a beer and untied by Pope, who notices Tom eying his brother's sidearm. He confronts him about it and Tom asks "What would you do?"

Hal returns and informs Weaver about the situation. Weaver says they will not trade with Pope and orders Mike to take Hal upstairs as prisoner until they are ready to leave. Mike, however, allows Hal to leave and on the way, Hal runs into Anne, who offers her assistance. They both return to find Margaret who escorts them back to Pope. Anne offers her assistance in relation to Pope's wounded brother, Billy. She bandages up his leg and Pope leaves him, Cueball and Margaret in charge of the prisoners as he and his other outlaws attempt to rob the 2nd Mass.

Pope sends a flare into the air to alert the airships, giving Weaver an ultimatum. Weaver reluctantly agrees and hands over food and ammunition. Back at Pope's base, Billy, Cueball and Margaret hold Tom and the others captive. Billy tells Karen to stand up and show her body, aggravating Margaret, who kills Billy and Cueball. She then lets the hostages go.

As Pope and his group load up the car, Tom and the other militia fire at them with guns, killing some of Pope's men. Tom offers him and ultimatum: "Join or die." Pope declines and waits for the alien's attack. An airship flies above Pope, who drives away, allowing his men to be killed by the ships. Pope pulls aside not far away, trying to escape, but Weaver pulls a gun on him, taking him hostage.

The next day, Weaver talks to Tom about the events that occurred the previous night. He then hands Pope over to Tom, who puts him in custody. Tom meets up with Matt for a quick game of catch. After, Tom, Hal, Karen, Dai, Anthony and Margaret go in search for Ben at a local hospital.

Terra Nova: Occupation/Resistance (Season 1 - Episode 11) - Season 1 Finale

Centers on the Shannons, an ordinary family from 2149 when the planet is dying who are transported back 85 million years to prehistoric Earth where they join Terra Nova, a colony of humans with a second chance to build a civilization.

Occupation
In part one of the two-part season finale, as the 11th pilgrimage begins arriving, a suicide bomber appears and sets off an explosion, killing Kara and seriously injuring Jim Shannon. Three days later, Jim awakens, only to learn that mercenaries called the Phoenix Group have captured Terra Nova. Cut off from Taylor and outnumbered, Lt. Washington surrendered the colony. Harsh martial law is imposed, while Taylor and his forces remain isolated in the jungle. Malcolm, who has been conscripted into service, is forced to repair the time portal. Weaver, Lucas Taylor's superior who arrived from 2149, orders the mercenaries to start stripping the new world's resources using pyrosonic bombs that will decimate half the continent and its wildlife. Shannon locates the test bomb and Taylor has Reilly disarm it, enraging Lucas. Meanwhile, Jim, Washington, and other colonists have been coordinating with Taylor in waging guerilla warfare against the Phoenix Group. Josh, working at Boylan's bar to gather intelligence, physically attacks Lucas after witnessing Lucas' unwanted amorous attention towards Skye. As Josh is restrained and beaten, Jim arrives on the scene to protect his son. Josh is freed due to Skye's influence but Lucas tortures Jim for information. Elisabeth intervenes, and forces Weaver into securing Jim's release. The Shannons escape Terra Nova with Lt. Washington's help, but she is captured and executed by Lucas. Meanwhile, Mira was sent to the badlands to retrieve an unknown item.

Resistance
In the second half of the two-part season finale, Commander Taylor and Jim Shannon continue disrupting the Phoenix Group's operations, but the damaged terminus has finally been repaired. The first shipment of new world resources is readied for transport to 2149. Jim relays Washington's final message to Taylor about Cù Lao Chàm, an island they once fought on: the bridge to 2149 must be destroyed from inside Hope Plaza to halt further enemy invasion into Terra Nova. Meanwhile, Skye, who deceived Lucas into believing she has joined his side, accompanies him on the Phoenix convoy, then tricks him into an ambush. Lucas escapes, but is shot by Skye as he is about to kill Taylor. Lucas, however, apparently survives and disappears. Taylor has the captured shipping container swapped with one concealing Jim, the bomb, and a drugged carnotaurus. Taylor's soldiers, disguised as the mercenaries, deliver it to the terminus. Once the container is inside Hope Plaza, Jim sets the awakened raging carnotaurus loose; it kills Weaver and his associates. Jim detonates the bomb, destroying the facility, barely making it safely back to Terra Nova. Cut off from 2149, the Phoenix Group and the Sixers evacuate Terra Nova and head for the badlands. The mysterious cargo Mira discovered there is revealed to be an 18th century ship's prow and figurehead, with no clues as to how it arrived in Terra Nova or what else is in the badlands.

Terra Nova: Within (Season 1 - Episode 10)

Centers on the Shannons, an ordinary family from 2149 when the planet is dying who are transported back 85 million years to prehistoric Earth where they join Terra Nova, a colony of humans with a second chance to build a civilization.

Within
Jim and Taylor confront Skye as the Sixer mole, though she claims her only motive was to save her mother, not betray the colony, nor did she ever provide vital information to Mira. Skye warns them that Lucas has successfully completed his calculations to reverse the time portal, and that his 2149 employers will invade and exploit Terra Nova. Taylor, expecting a full-on attack with the 11th pilgrimage's arrival in a few days, begins planning Terra Nova's defense. Skye is reunited with her mother after Taylor ordered Curran, the banished soldier who infiltrated Mira's camp, to rescue her from the Sixers. Terra Nova's medical staff is optimistic that her condition will improve once they synthesize the medication the Sixers were using to keep her alive.

Terra Nova: Now You See Me (Season 1 - Episode 9)

Centers on the Shannons, an ordinary family from 2149 when the planet is dying who are transported back 85 million years to prehistoric Earth where they join Terra Nova, a colony of humans with a second chance to build a civilization.

Now You See Me
Mira captures Taylor as he inspects Lucas' most recent rock carvings next to a river, but Taylor soon subdues her. Their situation changes rapidly, however, when two slashers stalk them. As Taylor and Mira join forces to evade the vicious predators, Mira shares more about herself and her motives to Taylor and also gives him information about Lucas. Meanwhile, a morse code signal is observed being sent to and from the Sixers and someone inside Terra Nova. Jim and Reynolds nearly capture the person sending it from the colony, but the mole (revealed to be Skye) barely escapes. Elisabeth starts decoding the DNA from a blood drop Jim found, but Skye, interning at the clinic, destroys the sample. Elisabeth can still determine that it is a female's blood, narrowing the search to 47 suspects. When Skye secretly delivers something to Mira, it is revealed that Skye's mother, Deborah, believed to have died from sincyllic fever, is being kept alive by the Sixers in exchange for Skye's cooperation. Also, Reynolds declares his intentions about Maddy to Jim. The Ankylosaur hatchling that Zoe has been caring for is growing rapidly and will soon be too old to adapt to the wild, forcing Zoe to face a difficult situation.

Terra Nova: Vs. (Season 1 - Episode 8)

Centers on the Shannons, an ordinary family from 2149 when the planet is dying who are transported back 85 million years to prehistoric Earth where they join Terra Nova, a colony of humans with a second chance to build a civilization.

Vs.
Boylan, confused and under duress after being interrogated in jail, mistakes Jim for Taylor and begins rambling about a body buried in the jungle. Jim unearths a skeleton by the banyan tree Taylor lived in when he first arrived in Terra Nova. Jim investigates this as an old murder case that Commander Taylor may have committed. Meanwhile, Mark Reynolds and other soldiers on a convoy in the jungle are ambushed by Sixers, who the spy apparently tipped off. The colony celebrates the Harvest Festival, in which Zoe stars in a play commemorating Commander Taylor's arrival in Terra Nova. The play reveals an unexpected clue to the murder. Also, Malcolm discovers how the Sixer spy inside Terra Nova communicates with Mira, but it creates an improbable trail leading to the Shannon house. Taylor stages a possible false arrest of Jim, after Jim refuses Taylor's request to drop the murder investigation. While Jim is in custody, Taylor reveals the dark truth to him about the 2149 leaders' real intent for Terra Nova: upon Taylor and his son Lucas' arrival to Terra Nova, Lucas invented a "bridge" to and from the future. After learning that Lucas was working for a corporation that was intending to strip the new world's resources, reaping huge profits, Taylor destroyed Lucas' work. Lucas summoned his father's superior General Philbrick to Terra Nova to relieve Taylor of command. When Taylor refused to step down in order to protect Terra Nova, he was forced to shoot the general in self-defense, then, assisted by Boylan, buried the body.

Terra Nova: Proof (Season 1 - Episode 7)

Centers on the Shannons, an ordinary family from 2149 when the planet is dying who are transported back 85 million years to prehistoric Earth where they join Terra Nova, a colony of humans with a second chance to build a civilization.

Proof
Josh strikes a deal with the Sixers to bring Kara to Terra Nova on the next pilgrimage, but Mira demands that he first steal antibiotics from the medical center using his mother's identity card. Meanwhile, Maddy suspects that Dr. Ken Horton (Robert Coleby), a renowned scientist who has just returned from a long research mission, may be harboring a secret about himself. After she uncovers evidence that may prove Horton is actually Andrew Fickett, a research assistant who killed the real Horton to assume his identity, Fickett kidnaps and attempts to murder Maddy with a venomous spider. Upon being tipped off by Zoe, Jim saves Maddy. While in the jungle, Commander Taylor encounters Curran (the banished soldier who murdered Foster) and offers him a deal after saving him from an ancestral Komodo dragon; he can return to the colony if he successfully infiltrates the Sixer's camp and uncovers Mira's spy in Terra Nova. After Josh tells his parents that he stole the meds, Jim confronts Boylan about the Sixers, and learns that Mira can communicate with 2149.

Josh and Skye are romantically attracted, but Josh quickly ends the budding relationship, telling Skye he wants to get his girlfriend, Kara, to Terra Nova. Two years into Jim's sentence, Elisabeth is recruited to travel 85 million years back in time with the Tenth Pilgrimage to Terra Nova (a prehistoric colony that is attempting to reinvent the past for a better future) albeit with the necessity to co-exist with dinosaurs. With only teenagers Josh and Maddy allowed to go with her, Elisabeth helps Jim escape from prison so that he and their five-year-old daughter, Zoe, can accompany the family into the past. Once in Terra Nova, Jim meets Commander Nathaniel Taylor, who, displeased by Jim's arrival, assigns him to work in the agriculture group. Meanwhile Josh meets a group of rebellious, though independent, teens, including a girl named Skye, while Elizabeth starts treating patients in the medical center.

Genesis Part 2
The enemy group called the Sixers is introduced. The Sixers arrived during the Sixth Pilgrimage, but for unknown reasons, they oppose Terra Nova's existence. After their hidden cache of weapons was found, the group broke away, forming a rival colony. When Carter, a captured Sixer, escapes and attempts to assassinate Commander Taylor, Jim subdues him, resulting in Taylor assigning Jim to his security team. The Sixers, led by Mira, arrive at Terra Nova to negotiate a trade: Carter and medical supplies in exchange for meteoric ore. Meanwhile, Skye and her friends invite Josh on a secret excursion into the jungle where they keep an alcohol still. At a waterfall, Skye shows Josh some unusual rock carvings, but requests he tell no one about them. The teens are stranded after Sixers steal their vehicle's power cells, and a pack of slashers (a common name for the fictional acceraptors) suddenly attack. Tasha panics and runs off, and Hunter and Max are injured, leaving Josh and Skye to fend off the vicious creatures. Jim, Taylor, and a rescue team find Tasha, and arrive in time to save the others. Back in Terra Nova, Josh and Jim reconcile their differences. Taylor inquires if Skye and the others went to the waterfall, though Skye claims they did not. Mira finds rock carvings that look suspicious.
